CANTON, Texas (KLTV) - Owners of a Canton restaurant are planning their next steps forward in the wake of a fire that consumed the building last night.

We spoke with management of Q & Brew to learn how they are responding to the crisis.

“Fire department - I - boy, the guys just busted their tails. Tried to save what they could and did a great job,” said general partner of Silver Spur Resort, Jack Woodward.

At around 5:00 p.m. Monday, Woodward was notified by employees that a fire had broken out.

Woodward was at an RV park doing a maintenance check when he got the news. He quickly went inside with a fire extinguisher, but realised it wasn’t enough. It was about that time that he heard the fire department responding.

“At first I thought it was overkill with the amount of engines coming in but it quickly became fully engulfed in the back and a lot of smoke,” said Woodward.

Woodward said they are closed on Mondays so thankfully nobody was in the restaurant at the time of the fire. He said the fire was isolated to storage and prep areas, where the wall and roof collapsed. With First Monday Weekend coming up, they had big plans.

“We were opening a brand new patio, had singers lined up, and all sorts of good things happening and everybody was excited about the weekend and rolling out some good stuff,” said Woodward.

However, he said they are adapting. They will still be at First Monday serving beer, and utilizing their smokehouse.

“And in the meantime we’ll be serving out of our smokehouse, we’ll be handling our caterings,” said Woodward. “Our caterings are smoked food, and so we can still take care of that without any interruptions.”

The Canton Fire Department says the cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is still under investigation.

Q & Brew hopes to be back open in about six months, but plan to be serving barbeque sandwiches out of their smokehouse by Thursday of this week.
