GILMER, Texas (KLTV) - Gilmer resident Louis Forte’ discovered something egg-xtraordinary in his hens’ nest last week. One of the chickens laid an egg that was larger than usual.

It measured to three inches long, a little over two inches in diameter, and had a weight of four ounces.

“I was just amazed! I’m looking at this egg, what can I say? There’s a scripture that says all things are possible, and this is what happens, it’s possible!” Forte’ says.

We compared it to a medium sized egg which has an average weight of 1.7 ounces, and there’s a great difference, as you can see below.

Forte’ says he received these golden comet chickens about nine months ago from a friend.

He’s seen the hens lay eggs before that are about 2.7 ounces with double yolks. But with an egg this heavy, he thinks there may be something unique inside.

“This egg is a 2.7, and this egg is four. Almost twice the size. So, I think it may have three yolks in it!” says Forte’.

Forte is interested in submitting his egg into the Guinness Book of World Records with this unusual weight.

“I’m going to go online and find out what the Guinness World Record of a hen egg’s weight and that will let me know if I can get it in there.”

Unfortunately, Forte’s egg is not the largest, but it’s egg-cellent nonetheless. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, that record was claimed in 1956 with an egg that weighed 16 ounces.
