TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Mount Vernon head football coach and athletic director Brad Willard has confirmed he is leaving to take a position as offensive coordinator at Tyler Legacy.

Willard will coach under Beau Trahan, who accepted the head coach job at Legacy two weeks ago.

“I just believe in what Coach is going to bring to table at Tyler Legacy,” Willard said.

Willard’s hiring is pending approval from the Tyler ISD board.

Willard leaves Mount Vernon after two successful seasons, including a 2021 appearance in the state semifinals.

“It’s been unbelievable,” Willard said. “They have awesome kids and a ton of support from parents and the community as a whole.”

Willard said he joined the Baylor football team as a walk-on and Trahan was on the staff in an off-the-field role and they later coached together at Baylor.

Willard said getting closer to family also played a role in the decision.
