Gregg County Sheriff’s Office investigating suspicious device found in trailer
GREGG COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - A bit of a scare for a rural East Texas area today, as county and federal agents arrive to inspect a travel RV.
Gregg county deputies and ATF agents arrived at a rural property in the 58-hundred block of Tryon road, just north of Longview, because of an RV trailer.
“We notified our fire marshal, who notified our friends at the ATF, who’s now on scene and they’ll be taking over when they get here,” said Gregg county sheriff’s office chief deputy Craig Harrington.
Harrington says the RV owner had gotten permission from the property owner to park his trailer on the property. But an examination of that trailer by a curious property owner revealed a disturbing find.
“We received a call from a gentleman up here saying that he had found what he deemed a suspicious device in the RV,” the chief deputy says.
Out of an abundance of caution, the Tyler Fire Department bomb squad and the ATF were called in to inspect and remove the device.
“Tyler Fire bomb squad did show up, removed the device, and it has now been rendered safe,” says Harrington.
Although they didn’t say what it was, it was found to be stable and posed no risk to the public.
But questions remain as to what it was it doing there, and what it was going to be used for.
“Everything is still under investigation,” Harrington says.
The owner of the trailer has not been identified, and agents are continuing their investigation into the device.
